About Vala Sciences

Vala Sciences Inc is a fast-growing San Diego-based biotechnology company that develops and sells cell-image-based instrumentation, reagents and analysis software tools to academic, pharmaceutical and biotechnology scientists. Vala has developed intellectual property that enables information-rich high throughput measurements for making fundamentally new insights into cell function.

Vala Sciences' IC 200 class instrumentation, assays and CyteSeer Automated Image Cytometry software can be applied to images acquired on any microscope system. The number one impediment to adoption of cell-image-based measurement automation by biological and pharmaceutical scientists is the complexity of designing and running assays on these new instruments. Vala Sciences solves this important challenge by teaming with the scientists to develop the hardware, software and measurement techniques for their biology. Vala's combined hardware, software and reagent assays convert labor-intensive qualitative observations of biological changes that can take from days to months, into accurate measurements delivered automatically in minutes.

The Vala Sciences biology and engineering team previously founded Q3DM, a San Diego based company that developed the EIDAQ/IC-100 high throughput microscopy (HTM) instrumentation and the CytoShop® software. Q3DM sold the technology to Beckman Coulter in December 2003 for manufacturing and worldwide distribution. Vala has since gained sole access to the intellectual property from the Q3DM/Beckman Coulter marketed instrumentation. Vala develops and sells the next generation IC200 instruments including the new KIC: Kinetic Image Cytometer.

Vala Sciences' developing relationships with multiple instrument, software and reagent partners will simplify seamless operation & adoption of its instrumentation, biological and software tools. The cell-based imaging and microscopy markets as a whole will benefit from increasingly simple click-and-measure imaging.
