Assay Development Scientist - Automated Biotechnology (VSAB-SC01)
Vala Sciences Inc. is seeking several experienced research assistants to help develop and perform large-scale high content screening (HCS) assays. These positions will be within the rapidly growing Automated Biotechnology division at Vala. Research assistants will be expected to work well in a fast-paced team environment and adapt easily to changing needs as projects and technologies evolve. Individuals will likely have experience gained in an academic core lab, systems-biology department or a research-focused industry setting. Team players with a meticulous attention to detail and a passion to generate great data are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Design and rationalize assay development strategies
- Develop and perform state-of-the-art image and data analysis methods
- Lead a team of 1-2 research associates
- Troubleshoot wet-lab protocols
- Oversee SOP compliance and maintain data integrity
- Generate scientific reports for clients
- Liaise with academic partner labs
- Evaluate and integrate cutting edge technologies such as microfabrication and acoustic liquid handling
- Present scientific and technical updates to Vala team members
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Biology, Biological Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 3 years experience
- Expert in image acquisition and analysis software
- Strong computational background desirable
- Experience maintaining multiple mammalian cell lines and primary cultures
- Ability to perform and troubleshoot immunocytochemistry and Western blotting
- Experience with stem cells preferred
- Experience with liquid handling robotics, a plus
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills
